Two Leesburg moms have inked a deal to open a franchise for Woofie's, the Ashburn-based mobile pet spa, dog walking and personalized pet-sitting business.

Woofie's announced its franchise expansion plans in 2018, with at least five new franchisee-owned locations slated to open in 2019.

This is the second Woofie's franchise in the area. The first services the Reston and Herndon areas.

Kristine Tech and Katherine Bhat have backgrounds in accounting and human resources and are neighbors in Leesburg. They are dog owners and users of Woofie's services. The two friends said they saw the franchise opportunity and thought it would be a great way to get involved in the community as part of a business they wanted to support.

“Choosing Woofie’s was easy,” Tech said. “We know Woofie’s. We know their brand. They’re well-respected, and our personalities and values align well with the Woofie’s team. Woofie’s understands that dogs are more than just pets – they’re members of the family."

Founded in 2004, Woofie’s offers personalized pet-sitting and dog-walking services, including consultations with a member of the management team and in-home overnight care. Their mobile pet spa provides one-on-one, cage-free grooming services with breed-specific haircuts, nail trims, hydrosurge baths and specialized de-matting and de-shedding treatments.

“As fairly new franchisors, we knew we wanted to stay close to home and find the perfect franchisees,” Woofie’s co-founder Amy Reed said. “Kristine and Katherine were already a part of the Woofie’s family as customers, and we are so excited to bring them in as franchisees."

Mobile grooming services are currently available with the Leesburg franchise, and the community is invited to a grand opening celebration April 28 at Black Walnut Brewery in Leesburg from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
