While COVID-19 has caused tight restrictions for visitors looking to experience local wineries, owners and managers are creating unique ways to connect, including with virtual tastings.
At Walsh Family Wine on Hillsboro Road in Hillsboro, Nate and Sarah Walsh are offering the Drinkwell Virtual Wine Series every Friday night at 5 p.m. via Facebook Live.
At each event, they discuss wine with experts who offer insight into the world of wine. Along with the Walshes, this week's “pros” are Jason Tesauro from Barboursville Vineyards near Charlottesville, Neal Wavra of Field and Main Restaurant in Marshall and Andrew Michael, a stand-up comedian.
A few miles away, Breaux Vineyards is kicking off a nine-week virtual tasting series this Friday at 7 p.m. on Facebook Live. This week Breaux will feature two rosé wines, the 2019 Rosé and the 2016 Sparkling Breauxmance. The event is the official release of the 2019 Rosé and will be hosted by Jim Koennicke, Breaux's lead educator.
Stone Tower Winery in Leesburg is also joining in on the fun, hosting a “virtual happy hour” every Thursday at 5 p.m, and Greenhill Winery in Middleburg will host a virtual chat with winemaker Ben Comstock at 4 p.m. April 2.
The wines are available to purchase online, and shipping or curbside pickup is available. More information about all of the events can be found at the wineries' Facebook pages.
