Loudoun’s favorite holiday events return this year with some new additions mixed in with annual traditions. After experiencing a quiet December last year, this time around there are numerous opportunities to enjoy some holiday cheer. As the pandemic continues, and with caution in mind, many of the events are being held outdoors with the option to be masked and socially-distanced.

Here’s a round-up of can’t miss events this holiday season:

Tinsel! Outdoor Festival

Tinsel! Outdoor Festival is an interactive experience showcasing thousands of festive lights and scenes. The event runs through January 22. Tickets start at $22 for adults and $15 for children. Tinsel has partnered with the Washington Capitals, so there is also a hockey-themed aspect to the event. Live entertainment and craft demonstrations round out the event. $1 of every ticket purchased will support the Inova Health Foundation. Tinsel! “Fantasia” on ice

Ashburn Ice House, along with Capital Theatre on Ice, will present an on-ice adaptation of “Fantasia” on December 17 at 6 p.m. and December 18 at 5 p.m. Skaters of all ages and abilities will take attendees on a musical journey on ice. There will also be a special guest performance from Ashburn Ice House’s newly crowned 2022 National Juvenile Ladies Champion. Performances will be at the on Ice House, 21595 Smith Switch Road, in Ashburn. Pre-show tickets are available at ashburnice.com for $10. each Tickets will also be available at the door for $12 each. Holiday Road light display

Holiday Road light display at Morven Park is a new event in Leesburg and runs through January 2. Tickets start at $29.99. This is a nearly three-quarters of a mile walking tour around the grounds of Morven Park. “Elf, the Musical”

Based on the beloved holiday classic movie, Briar Woods High School theatre will present “Elf, the Musical” December 9-11 at 7 p.m. and December 11 and 12 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10. 22525 Belmont Ridge Road, Ashburn.

Christmas Market

On Saturday, December 11, the town of Hillsboro will host a Christmas Market with local artisans and food vendors from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 37098 Charles Town Pike, Hillsboro. Oldstoneschool.org.

On the Lager Day of Christmas

Also on December 11, a short drive away from Hillsboro in Wheatland is On the Lager Day of Christmas – a curated holiday market at Wheatland Spring Farm + Brewery from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Guest breweries include Halfway Crooks, Oxbow, Schilling and a new Wheatland Spring lager release. Vendor partners will be offering craft goods. There will be a silent auction and raffle with all proceeds benefiting INOVA Children's Hospital. Holiday parades

On December 11 there are two local holiday parades in Leesburg and Purcellville. The Purcellville parade starts at noon beginning at Blue Ridge Middle School. The Leesburg parade begins at 6 p.m. starting at Ida Lee Recreation Center through the town of Leesburg. Visit purcellvilleva.gov and leesburgva.gov for more details.

Fa-la-la Holiday pop-up bar

When all else fails, a great way to get in the holiday spirit is a trip to Fa-la-la Holiday pop-up bar on Loudoun Street in Leesburg. The venue is decked out with holiday lights and the menu includes seasonal themed drink specials served along with Schmidt’s Bar-be-que.
