Ashburn's Brandon Diaz releases new holiday tune

Brandon Diaz released the single “This Year Sucks (At Least We Got Christmas).”

Ashburn native Brandon Diaz, a 2015 graduate of Briar Woods High School, has released a timely — and catchy holiday tune — called “This Year Sucks (At Least We Got Christmas).”

Diaz, who appeared on “American Idol” in 2018 and made it to the top 24, is a graduate of Berklee College of Music and lives in Los Angeles. However, he is currently home in Loudoun County visiting family for the holidays.

During the quarantine there have been many ups and downs, and Diaz said he has been channeling all of the emotions into writing music.

“Writing this song and listening back to it has honestly helped me cope with this crazy year. I hope it does the same for everyone who hears it,” Diaz told the Times-Mirror.

He said by writing the lighthearted song he hopes to make people smile with its upbeat and catchy melody.

“In a year that has felt so strange and unpredictable, it’s time to celebrate the holidays,” Diaz said.
