Now in its 17th year, the popular holiday shopping event called Chick’s Picks kicks off Nov. 26 in One Loudoun in a 17,000-square-foot space.
“I can’t believe this all started on my dining room table,” said event founder Hillary Tattersall. “And now we have 17,000 square feet. This county has embraced this concept and now it’s on steroids.”
With 80 participating vendors, the pop-up is designed with mini-vignettes representing a variety of products mostly from local artisans.
Tattersall said it is her job to curate the show.
“We have handmade products, seasonal and home décor, fashion accessories and gifts, vintage barware, lotions and soaps and much more,” she said. “There is something for everyone.”
All of the items are dropped off at the store and Hillary then works her magic in artfully arranging it to show off the pieces. She says it takes two weeks to set up the space and two days to break it all down at the end.
“I have an eye for design — I love it all,” she said. “I have a ball setting it up and I feel good supporting so many small business women in one stop.”
Chick’s Picks began in 2004, when Hillary was herself producing items for sale. She held a pop-up in her Sterling home to sell her handmade scarves and jewelry. She would also sell her wares at a shop in Leesburg. Over the years, it has continued to grow and she now has an email list of 10,000 customers.
“Each vendor has their own story about how they got started. It’s wonderful to get to know them all,” she said.
Tattersall said the event has become an annual destination for many of her customers, who see it as a perfect girl’s day out.
“This is truly about our Loudoun community. We are so excited to be doing it again this year,” she said.
