Boasting the distinction of being the location of Loudoun County’s first-ever doctor’s office is just one of several prized features of this historic Ashburn property, which includes a four-bedroom, Victorian-style farmhouse. It is currently listed for $1.3 million.

Built in 1871 for Dr. Victor B. Harding — Loudoun County’s first physician, according to Virginia Living — the property originally consisted of the two-bedroom house, Harding’s office and two barns. Wife-and-husband duo Hilary and Jack Cole, who run Ashburn-based Cole Construction LLC, bought the property in 2017 with an expansive vision. Along with renovating both barns, they added a covetable, 1,180-square-foot owner’s suite to the main level of the house.

“The renovations they’ve done make things much more modern while maintaining the character of the old house,” listing agent Jamie Wiles told the Times-Mirror.

All the property’s standout features are visible from one’s approach up the front path: the owner’s suite addition and the sleeping porch jut from either side of the main home, while Dr. Harding’s office and the red barn (or “Jack’s Barn”) lie just a few steps from the house. “The master suite that [the Coles] added is just a killer,” he said. “It has a closet which is really more of a dressing room.”

The three remaining bedrooms are on the second floor and share two full bathrooms between them. One of the bedrooms also includes its own separate office space, as well as a built-in storage bench perfect for reading on a rainy day.

Entertainment options abound on the rest of the property. The whole of Jack’s Barn has been renovated to include a billiards room on the main level, as well as a wet bar, a large sitting room and a half bath all on the upper level. Behind the house, mature trees shade the expansive stone patio and the heated pool, which was added along with the surrounding deck in 2019.

The original office building is an ideal spot to set up a wine cellar, while the large attic space can be used as a sleeping loft fit for Airbnb. The property also sits on nearly an acre of land, which Wiles said is “almost unheard of” in Ashburn.
