Inova Ladies Board Rummage Sale hauls in $343,000 this year

This year's two-day Inova Ladies Board Rummage sale Oct. 19 and 20 “shattered” all previous records for sales and brought in $343,000, according to event organizers.

“We are humbled and overwhelmed by the community’s support,” said Megan O'Brien, event co-chair.

The sale had record attendance both days, with an estimated 7,500 shoppers at Morven Park Equestrian Center. The few items remaining at the closing hour were collected by other charitable organizations.

Event co-chair Joylyn Hannahs said the day was "exhausting and exhilarating all at the same time.  The credit and our gratitude go to the hundreds of volunteers and donors who made our job easy.”

More than 600 volunteers unloaded, sorted and sold 12 tractor-trailers full of donations.

Net proceeds benefit Inova Loudoun Hospital and the Ladies Board Nursing Scholarship Fund.

Organizers will begin accepting donations early next year in anticipation of the 82nd edition of the rummage sale, scheduled for Oct. 24 and Oct. 25, 2020.

The Waterford Foundation has over $6 million in assets and G. Higgins/R. Minchew, P. Randall, and this BoS gave them $150,000 to "repair their finances." They don't pay property taxes, run a nice wedding business, developed plenty of land, and have been accused of gentrification. They sure pay themselves nice salaries while the rest of us try balancing our budget.

Inova annually earns a "surplus", if they weren't a non-profit this would be called a net profit, in the $100 - $150 million range and has net assets approaching $2.5 trillion. It is beyond me why people continue to raise money to pay for those things Inova could easily afford.

As the proud daughter of a 4 decade volunteer, I can tell you why they still do it. It doesn't go to the hospital. They give out nursing scholarships, for example. There are many things their philanthropy has funded over the years.
