With a goal of bringing a Loudoun-centric overnight stay experience to the area, Purcellville residents Luke and Ardelle Baldwin teamed up about two years ago with Jack Clark and Andrew Reamer to develop Loudoun Stay, a company which manages short-term rental properties.
While their plans were put on hold somewhat during the pandemic in order to see how the rental market played out, they created a business model that has now quickly taken off in terms of interest level from both property owners looking to maximize the value of their properties and from people interested in staying at the properties.
“What we have here is a chance to provide an experience this beautiful area at private luxury estates. We are providing access to hidden gems in Loudoun,” Baldwin said.
“I too, love this area. It’s a great place and where we want to hopefully retire,” said Clark. “We wanted to find a way to give this Loudoun experience to other people. So, we sat down and brainstormed the ways in which we could do this and we have come up with this model and it’s working very well.”
Loudoun Stay currently manages three properties with several more additions on the way, Baldwin said. At the properties, Loudoun Stay provides information about the local community and access to the area’s destinations and products.
Trinity Farm Estate, located in Paeonian Springs, has two homes on the 30-acre property which features a swimming lake, fishing pond, soccer area and barn. The homes have wrap-around decks and views of the countryside. The two homes can be rented individually or together for a larger gathering.
They also oversee The Lodge at Bear Rock and Meadowbrook Estate, in Bluemont and Round Hill. Both of the properties are recently renovated and are loaded with amenities, he said.
In addition, to add to the guests’ experience during their stay, they have partnered with Founding Farmers, a Washington, D.C.-based restaurant group which has recently added private chef and catering to their business model.
“Loudoun Stay and Founding Farmers creating a partnership was perfect timing for us. We are trying to shine a light on our growing catering and events and private chef experiences and it is a mutually beneficial partner for us. The timing could not have been better,” said Meaghan O’Shea, vice president of marketing and communications for Founding Farmers.
“Founding Farmers offers visitors the opportunity to have local goods brought to their rentals which can be done in many different ways – such as a catered meal, more casual lunch boxes or a charcuterie board upon arrival. We can take out the stress and make something delicious, everyone wins,” she added.
The team at Loudoun Stay has found that there is an explosion of interest in people who are looking to visit and stay in Loudoun County with a focus on weekday corporate retreats, family gatherings, weddings and other special events.
They have joined the Loudoun Bed & Breakfast Guild — which has about 50 members and has also seen a tremendous amount of recent growth in bookings — according to the Guild’s President, Leslie Tharp, owner of Stone Gables Bed and Breakfast in Leesburg.
Loudoun Stay partner Andrew Reamer, who has a background in real estate, said one of the goals of their business is to preserve the natural beauty in Loudoun and then supplement the income of the property owners without having to sell or subdivide their land.
“This is a booming agritourism area for the region,” Reamer said. “Short-term stays have exploded and now it is more important than ever to have a unique place to stay in order to drive that experience.”
