Visit Loudoun, the county's tourism agency, has partnered with Virginia Tourism Corporation to launch the Summer of Love tour, a summer-long slate of events celebrating the 50th anniversary of the “Virginia is for Lovers” brand.
“The Virginia is for Lovers brand is one of the most iconic brands in advertising, recognized around the world,” Visit Loudoun President and CEO Beth Erickson said in a prepared statement. “The Summer of Love tour captures the cultural touchstones of 1969 while also highlighting the diversity of experiences in Loudoun and what people truly love about this destination.”
A vintage VW van contributed by Lindsay Volkswagen of Dulles – the same bus featured in Quentin Tarantino's “Jackie Brown” – will travel to 19 events scheduled across the county. Event participants can visit the bus for photo opportunities and special giveaways. More information and a complete schedule are available at VisitLoudoun.org/summeroflove.
Upcoming “tour stops” include Fourth of July celebrations and wine and beer events. The tour will culminate with the Lindsay VW Summer of Love Music Festival at B Chord Brewing Company on Aug. 17.
On July 26, the bus will be on display at Village at Leesburg, where musicians Tommy Gann and Todd Wright will be performing "Coming Home," a song dedicated to Loudoun County and commissioned by Visit Loudoun.
Several events will also feature the special 50 Years of Love wine released by Tarara Winery, as well as the limited-edition 50 Years of Love craft beer from B Chord Brewing.
