Loudoun County Sheriff's Office seal

An Aldie man has been charged with reckless handling of a firearm following an incident that left his dog wounded, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

Joel M. Nichols, 33, was charged and released on a summons on Jan. 31.

Just before midnight on Jan. 19, Loudoun deputies responded to the 41800 block of Fraser Downs Terrace in Aldie, where Nichols was allegedly clearing a firearm and unintentionally discharged a round that struck the dog's lip.

The dog was taken to an emergency veterinarian where the dog was treated for a non-life threatening injury.

how exactly was this individual "cleaning" their gun? I think most of these extremely stupid, "failure to think" people were actually playing with their weapon- handling it foolishly, recklessly. Course they're not going to admit that to the police, so it's "Well officer, I was just cleaning my gun........."

Aldie again! The new Mecca for gun safety!

We can never have too many guns around, can we?
