A man was issued a citation early Tuesday in Aldie for reckless handling of a firearm after he allegedly fired a bullet into a neighboring residence, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded to the 42000 block of Shadows Pride Terrace around 12:54 a.m. for a gunfire complaint in which the complainant reported a bullet had entered his residence.

One of the complainant's neighbors, 28-year-old Andrew E. Foth, was reportedly determined to have unintentionally discharged his gun and was subsequently issued the citation.

Authorities say the case remains under investigation.

Thank goodness the victim didn't "unintentionally discharge" a gun back at Foth.

This is more-accurately called a "negligent" discharge. The term "unintentional" is vague and fails to identify the cause. Which may be either the firearm (actual failure of the equipment) or the person (who failed to follow basic safety rules).

"Accidental" discharges are what we see with the LCSO deputy who recently won a settlement from SIG Sauer.
