Biotech company Aperiomics has announced Loudoun County will serve as its new corporate headquarters.

Aperiomics has the technology to identify every known, sequenced bacteria, virus, fungus, and parasite through deep shotgun metagenomic sequencing, using a database containing over 37,000 microbes, according to company officials.

The company has six employees and plans to grow to more than 40 in the next three years, which represents a 567% increase in job growth. The company's average annual salary is expected to be over $108,000, according to Loudoun Economic Development.

The new headquarters will be located in a Loudoun County Opportunity Zone at 45925 Horseshoe Drive in Sterling. The site will serve as the hub for the company’s continued research and innovation.

Aperiomics is looking to lease 4,300 square feet in the first two years and to nearly double its space by year three.

Loudoun Economic Development officials said that over three years Aperiomics expects to invest $835,716, including $425,000 in personal property taxes and over $410,000 to lease space.

“It is vital to us to support cutting-edge companies like Aperiomics as the county diversifies its economy and grows the ecosystem for biotech companies,” Loudoun Economic Development Executive Director Buddy Rizer said in a prepared statement. “Loudoun is well-positioned at the nexus of health and data and Aperiomics is leading this charge.”

Aperiomics CEO Dr. Crystal Icenhour said the company based its decision in part because Loudoun is a community that fosters innovation, access to talent and has service infrastructure.

“Our roots are in Loudoun County, and nowhere else fit the bill quite as well,” Icenhour said, noting the county's reputation as a major technology hub, access to major data centers and proximity to health care hubs.

The Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved a $75,000 commercial business incentive fund grant to support the costs of the development of the state-of-the-art laboratory in Sterling to be completed and certified in the coming months.
