Briar Woods High School Assistant Principal Jonathan Kite died Monday following a three-car crash in Page County, according to Virginia State Police.
Emergency crews responded at 4:54 p.m to U.S. 211 near the intersection of Bixlers Ferry Road in Luray, VSP officials said. Sgt. Brent Coffey said a 2020 Kia Telluride, driven by Kite, was traveling west on U.S. 211 when it ran off the road to the left, crossed the median and crashed head-on with an eastbound-traveling 2005 Chevy Impala, according to the Daily News-Record in Harrisonburg.
The impact forced the Kia to strike a 1999 GMC Envoy that was traveling eastbound.
The driver of the Chevy also died. Police on Tuesday said they were working to notify his next of kin.
The driver of the GMC was not injured.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by VSP’s Division 2 Accident Reconstruction Team. The crash remains under investigation by Trooper N. Wakeman.
Kite had a 15-year career in education and worked at Briar Woods High School for two years. Before that he worked at Potomac Falls High School.
