A Loudoun County man is accused of repeatedly groping girls at the Claude Moore Recreation Center in Sterling in December and on Feb. 3.
Two girls said a man police identified as Michael Donald Taylor repeatedly touched them high on their hips as they swam by him on Feb. 3, according to a criminal complaint written by Deputy Edmond Chong of the county Sheriff’s Office.
“The victims and the witness said the touching occurred in a deliberate and repeated manner while the females swam past Mr. Taylor,” Chong wrote. “The assaults today were witnessed by a lifeguard who was alerted to Mr. Taylor’s prior and recurring behavior by the swim coach of the four females.”
A 16-year-old and a 17-year-old girl said they were groped on Feb. 3 and 15 and 16-year-old girls said they were groped in Dec. 15, according to Chong and court documents. The most recent incident was called in at 6 a.m.
Taylor, 62, was arrested and charged with four counts of misdemeanor assault and battery. Taylor has no prior criminal record, according to a bond application. However, in a statement on the bond application, police asked that Taylor, who they said has lived in the county in a motor home since February of last year, be held without bond.
“The defendant has no ties to the area,” the statement said. “There is a concern for the safety of victims and the community based on nature and circumstances of the charges.”
Police believe there may have been additional incidents, according to an Sheriff’s Office news release. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Joseph M. Whitehead at 703-777-1021.
