Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office authorities are advising residents who purchased gas at the Exxon on Flagstaff Plaza in Ashburn to monitor their credit cards after skimming devices were found on two gas pumps.

The two devices were located Sunday afternoon on the No. 3 and No. 16 pumps. Authorities say it is unclear when the potential electronic access devices, commonly referred to as a skimming device, were installed. Detectives with the LCSO Financial Crimes Unit are working to identify who installed the devices.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Detective C. Johnson at 703-777-1021. Tipsters can also submit information through the LCSO app, which is available on the iTunes App Store and Google Play.

The Federal Trade Commission urges residents whose card or cards may have been compromised to report it to their bank or card issuer. Federal law limits an individual's liability if their credit, ATM or debit card is lost or stolen, but liability may depend on how quickly a loss or theft is reported, according to the LCSO.
