Loudoun County Animal Services is investigating the deaths of three cats that were reportedly found discarded in Lovettsville on Sept. 27, officials said Oct. 7.

The remains were reportedly discovered in the McKimmey Boat Ramp/Point of Rocks area in an untied garbage bag, which authorities believe was discarded between Sept. 25 and 26.

Per LCAS, Humane Law Enforcement Officers are investigating the matter because of apparent gunshot or projectile wounds.

Two of the cats were male. One was a neutered, brown tabby and the other was an unneutered orange and white cat of an undetermined breed.

The third cat was a female calico that had been spayed.

No evident connection exists between this case and the previous cases involving cat shootings earlier this year, officials said.

Anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area is asked to call 703-777-0406. Authorities said information leading to an arrest will yield a $1,000 reward.
