The High-Up Food Mart in the Sterling Park Mall was robbed at gunpoint Monday afternoon, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded to the 400 block of Enterprise Street in Sterling around 1 p.m. for reports of an armed male suspect who took an undisclosed amount of money from the register before fleeing.

No injuries were sustained during the incident, according to the LCSO.

Authorities describe the suspect as a white, possibly Hispanic male, approximately 5-feet, 7-inches tall. He reportedly concealed his face with a mask and sunglasses and wore a dark gray hooded jacket with the hood drawn.

Deputies did not locate the suspect after establishing a perimeter and searching the area.

The LCSO continues to investigate the robbery. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective T. Rodriguez of the agency's Criminal Investigations Division at 703-777-0475. Thank goodness no one was hurt. I hate to bring this up, but if you think Sterling is bad, just wait for Metro to come all of the way out. I watched Wheaton, MD become extremely crime ridden within a few years of the subway being in place. Now i wouldn't want to live there. It used to be a great neighborhood. Many think Metro coming to Loudoun is a great thing and I agree to an extent. I do wonder though, how many have really thought about some of the downsides. I hope this is being addressed.

did the robbers have more than 12 rounds in their pistol? cause that will be illegal pretty soon... could have totally stopped this crime

The public will be more safe when laws are enacted to make armed robbery illegal.
