The Loudoun County Combined Fire and Rescue System recently announced the graduation of nearly 70 first responders who completed a number of levels of fire and training, according to a release.
A total of 67 first responders took part in the graduation program, held on Jan. 5, the release said, where they were recognized by leadership of the fire and rescue service, along with county administration and members of the county Board of Supervisors.
Gary Clemens, clear of the county’s Circuit Court, officially swore the new members in.
According to the release, 47 of the students completed the Emergency Medical Technician-Basic course, or EMT-B; 10 students completed the Firefighter I-II course and the remaining 10 completed the Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic, or EMT-P, program.
The graduates completed what the release called “countless” hours over the past six months to complete their training, and achieved certifications from Loudoun County, Virginia and the United States.
The release said it is a tradition in the county’s fire and rescue service to designate one individual as the class’ “top student.” That student “exemplifies leadership, dedication, academic success and the ability to motivate others,” the release said.
Tyler Yudd was named top student of the Firefighter I-II class; Claire Davison was the top student of the summer’s EMT-B class and Hana Al Shawi and Ed Jackson were the top students of their respective fall EMT-B classes. Finally, Adam Smit was named top student of the EMT-Paramedic class.
System Chief Keith Johnson congratulated the graduates.
“This is a proud moment as we continue to grow our fire and rescue system,” Johnson said, according to the release. “These fine individuals will make valuable contributions to our fire and rescue family and to the Loudoun County community. Thank you for your commitment, courage, and willingness to serve.”
