Matthew Holland, 28, of Newark, New York, has been taken into federal custody following charges of producing, receiving and possessing child pornography, as well as enticement of a Loudoun minor, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
Holland, who reportedly recently resigned as a faculty member at Newark High School and owned a local business called Illumination Images, was arrested earlier this year after an investigation involving the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, and he was previously held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.
According to a criminal complaint, Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office investigators on March 9 received a report that Snapchat user “Tjohnson755” had held explicit conversations with a minor, whose identity remains confidential.
The user, later identified as Holland, reportedly coerced the child into sending him nude photographs and threatened to disseminate them over the Internet when the minor indicated she wished to cease communications.
Using IP information, the LCSO executed a search warrant at Holland’s Newark residence with assistance from the Newark Police Department and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office in New York, according to the DOJ.
Prosecutors say hundreds of images and videos of child pornography, some involving prepubescent minors and some that Holland reportedly produced using his Snapchat account, were discovered.
He was arrested and extradited to Leesburg to face state charges, and he most recently made an initial appearance in U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of Virginia in Alexandria.
Per the DOJ, Holland is being held without bail until he is transported to the Western District of New York, where Assistant U.S. Attorney Kyle P. Rossi will handle the prosecution.
