Luis Abarca mugshot

Luis A. Abarca

A man was arrested near Sugarland Square Court in Sterling Friday night after a fight with another man, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded to the area around 11:53 p.m. for a report of the altercation, in which the caller said one of the subjects fired a gun into the air.

After authorities located both men, one reportedly failed to comply with their orders and fled on foot, though he was apprehended shortly thereafter.

Luis A. Abarca, 27, of Sterling, was charged with obstruction of justice and public intoxication.

Officials say Abarca was later released from the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center on a personal recognizance bond.

Another guns-save-lives moment from our super-safe gun owners. /snark

Why wasn't he charged with "bullet trespass?" He fired a gun into the air.

The shot in the air was reported by the callers who thought they heard a gunshot, but it has yet to be verified by law enforcement. He can’t be charged with it till they know it even happened.
