A man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a Jan. 17 shooting at a Sterling residence, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities first learned of the incident when the victim, having suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, arrived at the emergency room of Inova Loudoun Hospital, where the victim remains hospitalized.
While the LCSO said circumstances surrounding the shooting were "initially unclear," detectives continued to investigate and determined the incident took place inside a residence in the 1000 block of S. Ironwood Road.
From there, authorities identified the suspect, 27-year-old Jose A. Rivas-Castillo, and arrested him at a residence in the 100 block of Andrew Pl. in Sterling.
A search warrant of that residence further resulted in the location of an AR-15-style rifle, a 40-round magazine, 32 grams of what is suspected to be crack cocaine and more than $1,200 in cash, per the LCSO.
Rivas-Castillo was charged with aggravated malicious wounding and use of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
He remains held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.
