A Sterling woman has been identified as the victim in a fatal crash last Thursday.
The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office responded to the intersection of South Sterling Boulevard and West Maple Avenue at 2:13 p.m. June 7 for a crash involving multiple vehicles.
A Toyota traveling westbound on South Sterling Boulevard ran a red light and hit a minivan that had proceeded into the intersection on the green traffic signal. The minivan then hit a Loudoun County School Bus, LCSO officials said.
There were no children on the school bus. The driver and passenger of the minivan were transported to a local hospital with what were reported to be minor injuries.
On Saturday, LCSO was notified that the passenger of the minivan, Dorothy A. Cooper, 82, of Sterling, had passed away due to complications from pre-existing medical conditions and the crash.
LCSO continues to investigate the case, and charges for the driver of the Toyota, Farhad Shinwarai, are pending.
CORRECTION: An earlier version of this article identified Dorothy Cooper as the driver of the minivan based on an LCSO report. Cooper was the passenger of the minivan.
