Ashburn multi-vehicle crash — 8-24-20

Emergency vehicles gather in Ashburn Aug. 24 following a multi-vehicle crash.

An Ashburn woman has died following a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of Belmont Ridge Road and Hay Road in Ashburn Monday morning, according to Virginia State Police.

A 2018 Tesla Model X traveling north on Belmont Ridge Road and a 2008 Mazda 3 traveling east on Hay Road collided in the intersection around 11:48 a.m.

The Mazda driver, 47-year-old Gail Appling of Ashburn, was transported to a Inova Loudoun Hospital, where she reportedly died as a result of her injuries.

The passenger, 47-year-old Kendell Appling of Ashburn, was transported to Reston Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, according to VSP.

Gail Appling was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt, while Kendell Appling was.

The Tesla driver, 46-year-old Padmanabha Rajagopalan of Ashburn, wore a seatbelt and was reportedly uninjured, while a passenger was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The VSP Fairfax Division Crash Reconstruction Team was helping to investigate the crash as of Wednesday morning.

Oh wow, so I'm not crazy for thinking the same thing? And that light is horrendous! Yes the one at Hay and Belmont. The one at Sycolin and Belmont isn't as bad.
