Jakz the German Shepherd

Jakz is one of many German Shepherds available to adopt through Virginia German Shepherd Rescue Inc.

The Centreville-based Virginia German Shepherd Rescue Inc. will host a dog adoption event at Village at Leesburg on Saturday, according to officials.

Three adoptable German Shepherds — Angel, Major and Jakz — will be in attendance from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Dog Krazy, which is located at 1603 Village Market Blvd.

A volunteer-run nonprofit founded in 2001, VGSR is "dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of the German Shepherd," according to its website.

The organization has found homes for more than 3,000 dogs in the greater Washington, D.C. area and Virginia over the last 20 years.

Along with the opportunity to meet dogs up for adoption, visitors to Saturday's event can learn more about VGSR's mission.
