REAL ID | U.S. Rep Jennifer Wexton, DMV Commissioner Richard Holcomb

U.S. Rep. Jennifer Wexton (D) and Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles Commissioner Richard Holcomb hosted a REAL ID application event encouraging Virginians to apply for the important travel credential ahead of the October TSA Enforcement.

Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton (D-Va.-10th) and officials from the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles urged Virginians Saturday to apply for the REAL ID.

During an awareness event in Sterling, Wexton was joined by DMV Commissioner Richard D. Holcomb and DMV’s mobile operations team, which processed REAL ID applications.

Beginning Oct. 1, U.S. residents who want to board a domestic flight or enter a secure federal facility using their state-issued driver’s license or ID card as identification must have a version of the credential that is compliant with the new REAL ID standards.

The purpose of the REAL ID Act, according to the Department of Homeland Security, “is to make our identity documents more consistent and secure.” It provides a set of standards for the issuance of driver’s licenses and other identity documents.

If residents don't have a REAL ID, they'll need to present another form of federally accepted identification, such as a U.S. passport, passport card, Global Entry card or U.S. Department of Defense ID.

“I’m pleased to have had this opportunity to offer DMV’s convenient mobile service to my constituents,” Wexton said in a prepared statement. “Approximately one million Virginians have already obtained their REAL ID, but many more still need to apply. Time is of the essence.”

In order to obtain a REAL ID, customers must visit the DMV in person with certain documents that show proof of:

-Identity and Legal Presence (e.g. unexpired U.S. passport, U.S. birth certificate or unexpired Permanent Resident card);

-Social Security Number (e.g. Social Security card or W-2 form displaying full nine digits);

-Residency – two proofs required and must display name and current Virginia residential street address (e.g. recent utility bills, mortgage statements, valid Virginia driver’s license); and

-Any name changes (e.g. marriage certificates or divorce decrees). Note: If the name on your identity document is different than your legal name, you must show proof of your name change. Multiple documents may be necessary if your name has changed more than once. DMV can issue certified copies of Virginia birth and marriage certificates for a fee.

More information is available online at Existing DMV customers can fill out their application online before visiting the DMV to complete the transaction.

Well your comments on Wexton are right on, but scarier is that her office people are instructed, based on my real world personal experience, to falsify and change your comments in an attempt to attack you if you do not agree with her "ignorant" policies. Furthermore, if you look at where you renew your license and what the criteria is for a "Real ID" are you kidding me? So let me see, the Democrats want you to be able to vote if you just swam across the border and oh by the way immediately get a driver's license, but law abiding legal citizen are going to have to show 2 forms if ID to get to certain places? I guess that only applies to real citizens, ergo, only Real Citizens need a Real ID, anyone else can do whatever they want. WOW!! The double standard hypocrisy is beyond compare. I can tell you from personal experience Jennifer Wexton is a Pelosi, Schumer, Schiff, bot that is not interested in doing anything but exactly what her Bloomberg donors want her to. She is a threat to the very fabric and way of life for the 10th district citizens and pretty soon you will have to show 2 forms of ID to purchase more than a 16 oz. drink. Start campaigning against her today and let’s make sure we take Virginia back plus some in 2020. Just to remind you, vote out Warner, vote out Wexton and when the next elections are up vote out that loser Tim, where did he go, Kaine and 13th district John Bell who doesn’t have anyone but a temp answering his phone. I will leave all Virginia loving law abiding citizens with a quote from the Virginia Bill of Rights…“the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed”. God Bless Virginia, God Bless Donald J Trump the most amazing and beneficial President to the People in the History of America. His accomplishments in spite of efforts to overthrow him from within the House have set records that will never be approach again. Amazing trade deals, growth beyond belief, lowest unemployment across the board in the History of America, changing the inner cities which have been decimated by Liberal rule for over 50 years. Just think, he did this in just 3 years, think what will happen when we kick out the socialists and re-elect him in 2020. Turn Virginia Red again for life.

looking forward to voting for whoever is running against the socialist Wexton. I still cant believe someone this dumb is serving in the US House of Reps. But not surprised with AOC, Omar and the other squad members....I can see why those folks were elected, but I though people in Loudoun were supposed to be more educated than those run down parts of the country....

It's odd to see Rep.Wexton shilling for something that's going to prevent undocumented immigrants from traveling by air or entering federal facilities in the United States.

Why should anyone waste time waiting in line for several hours at the DMV and pay an extra $30 to upgrade their drivers license that hasn't expired and may not expire for another 4-5 years to Real ID if they have a perfectly good passport?

If a passport isn't "real ID" I don't know what is.

Can can and should do some much better.

When I got my "real ID" three months ago at the Leesburg DMV, I had to wait for 3.5 hours.
