Alan Edward Martin

On Thursday, November 26, 2020, Alan Edward Martin, loving son, brother and uncle passed away at the age of 51. Alan was born May 15, 1969, to Velma and Nelson Marsh in Takoma Park, Md. At the age of 13, he joined the family of lifelong friends to Velma — Ken and Diane Martin (formerly of Sterling, Va). Alan is survived by his loving parents; two caring siblings, Lori (Chris) Mullins and Kirk (Dawn) Martin; and his nieces and nephews.

As many of you know, Alan had a love of break-dancing, DJ’ing and trivia, as well as martial arts (just ask his mom and dad about his collection of throwing stars that ended up in the wall in his bedroom). In the early 80s, he joined the dance group the Atomic Breakers and enjoyed performing locally. He always had the best moves and enjoyed dancing with and for all of his friends. In 1988, after graduating from Broad Run High School in Ashburn, Virginia, Alan headed to Parris Island, South Carolina, where he joined the Marine Corp. After successfully completing boot camp, Alan spent time at Camp Pendleton, California, and Okinawa, Japan, before serving time in Operation Desert Storm. After CPL Martin left the Marines, he enjoyed the salt life in Ocean City, Maryland, for many years before returning to northern Virginia.

So when you hear some Bill Withers, Sade, Earth Wind & Fire, Chaka Khan, etc., turn it up loud, dance and think of Alan.

The family is planning a Celebration of Life for Summer 2021.
