Charles Samuel Pearson, affectionately known as “Sam” or “DeDa,” passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2020, at Reston Hospital at the age of 86. The youngest of six children, Sam was born at the family farm in Aldie, VA, on January 12, 1934, to the late Frank James and Estelle Griffith Pearson. A lifelong resident of Loudoun County, he attended both Aldie Elementary and Aldie High School, where he played baseball and football before graduating in 1953.
Sam’s life was committed to his family, his faith, his country, and his community. He became a member of the Little River Baptist Church, Aldie, VA, in 1950 filling the positions of both Deacon and Church Trustee over the years. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958, including an overseas deployment to Germany. He married his high school sweetheart, Betty Dunn in 1955, bought a home in Arcola, and as a carpenter, supported a growing family of three children. In 1960, he joined the Arcola-Pleasant Valley Volunteer Fire Department serving in several leadership roles, including that of Chief before receiving the honor of “Life Membership” status. Sam also dedicated several years coaching the Arcola Lions baseball team of the Loudoun Little League as well as the Arcola A’s Babe Ruth team.
Recent years brought great joy and appreciation for living the country life, as he enjoyed watching the farming projects on the adjacent farm in Lenah, including the corn and soybean plantings and harvests, as well as watching over the numerous wildlife that happily made his property their home.
Sam is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty Dunn Pearson of Aldie; two sons, Tom Pearson (Sharon) of Haymarket, and Tim Pearson (Janice) of Fredericksburg; one daughter, Nancy Pearson of Aldie; and one brother, John Pearson of Herndon. He was also the best “DeDa” ever to his five grandchildren, Jenna Pearson Wedding (Brian), Mindy Pearson Moreno (Matthieu), Bryan Pearson, Aimee Rivera, Mekynzie Pearson; and two great-grandchildren, Dominic and Emilie Moreno (also given the nicknames “Tex” and “Lenah” from DeDa). Along with his parents, Sam was preceded in death by four siblings, Wallace (Chubby) Pearson, Frank Pearson Jr., Rosalie Pearson and Dorothy Pearson Spindle.
