John Allen Albree II passed away on December 21, 2019, in Canton, NC. He was born September 19, 1962, in Burlington, Vermont. John was raised in a military family, and in early 1983 he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served in an Armor Division as tank crewman. During his military service he was posted at various U.S. and European bases, primarily in Germany. Following his first tour of duty, he re-enlisted for a second tour and went back to Germany for two more years. He received an honorable discharge at the end of 1988. John did not have an easy life, suffering from the effects of PTSD for many years, and yet was a genial and easygoing guy who made friends easily, and despite life’s difficulties, was optimistic and cheerful. He spent most of his recent years in the Asheville and Tryon, North Carolina areas, where his parents had retired in the 2003.
John was predeceased by his parents, LTC John Albree (Ret) and Phyllis Albree who resided in Columbus, NC, at the time of their deaths. Mr Albree is survived by his daughter, Dana Russell of Asheville, and son, John Albree III of New York. Additionally, John had a number of aunts, uncles and cousins in the Leesburg and Midlothian areas of Virginia. A memorial service will be conducted at Tryon United Methodist Church at a later date.
