Lester Elwood Jewell, 83, of Round Hill, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2020, at his home. Lester was born in Front Royal, Virginia, and was raised in Clarke County, Virginia.
Lester was in construction for most of his career, and in later years worked for Loudoun County Public Schools as a much loved custodian at Catoctin Elementary School. He was a faithful member of Harmony United Methodist Church for over 31 years. He loved all his neighbors and was often called the “neighborhood watch.” He never met a stranger and loved to talk to people. Lester was a devoted husband and father, and his favorite role was granddad and great-granddaddy.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Jewell. He is survived by his daughter, Karen J. Becker and her husband David of Round Hill, Va.; granddaughters, Katie Becker Hudson and her husband Jason of Berryville, Va., and Kimberly Becker Kelley and her husband Kevin of Upperville, Va.; great-grandchildren, Graham, Logan and Vivian Hudson, Kaden and Knox Kelley; sister, Faye Crim and her husband James of Berryville, Va.; and brother, Roger Jewell and his wife Gina of Jackson, Ga. He is also survived by his daughters, Patty Heinbuch of Mesa, Arizona and Elizabeth (Libby) Miller and her husband Ray of Chandler, Ariz.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Harmony United Methodist Church, 380 East Colonial Highway, Hamilton, Va. 20158.
A private memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. August 22 at Hall’s Funeral Home in Purcellville, Va.
