Sarah Cooley Potts

Sarah Cooley Potts went to be with her Lord on September 8, 2020. She was the daughter of Herbert H. Cooley and Muriel Hinkel Cooley, and the wife of Robert B. Potts. They had just recently celebrated their 65th anniversary in June.

Sarah was born in Round Hill, VA, on April 2,1933. She attended Lincoln High School and graduated in 1951. She enjoyed playing basketball, golf, and tennis.

She attended Mary Washington College her freshman year and then transferred to John’s Hopkins University Nursing School to finish her BSN nursing and spent many years working for the local general practitioner in Purcellville.

While her husband Bob was in military service in Chicago, she was employed at the YMCA. She continued her interest in the YMCA in Loudoun County when they returned to the family farm.

She was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Purcellville and taught adult Sunday school classes for many years. She enjoyed singing in the choir and served on several church committees.

Most of all, she was proud to be a member of the Ladies Board at the INOVA Loudoun Hospital. She volunteered countless hours in the hospital gift shop and at the Twice as Nice thrift shop.

She was invaluable on the family farm, Dogwood Farm, spending many hours helping with milking and feeding the young calves. She also tended her roses with great care. She loved sharing these lovely flowers with her friends and family.

She always enjoyed her bridge group and played regularly with these ladies for many years always enjoying a tasty dessert and laughter.

Sarah is survived by her husband, Bob, and three children, Michael Potts (Nancy), Susan Granade (Jim) and Timothy Potts; five grandchildren, Chris Potts (Sarah), Hayley Goodwin (Coty), Logan Potts (fiancée Christine Rindfleisch), Carolyn Carr (Chris) and Jennifer Granade; and one great-grandson, Caleb Potts.

Contributions may be given to the Ladies Board Lights of Love at INOVA Loudoun Hospital, P.O. Box 6115, Leesburg, VA 20178; or to Bethany United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 487, Purcellville, VA. 20134.
