My name is Courtney Bergeron and I am a senior at Rock Ridge High School in Loudoun County Virginia.

Major discrimination is happening against fine arts students. Under executive order 72, high school performances are categorized under “social gatherings.” This means we can not have more than 50 people, including the cast, at our shows.

However, athletes are allowed to have up to 100 spectators indoors, not including the athletes. This is completely unfair to all students in the performing arts. If student athletes are able to have their senior seasons, then seniors in the arts should get the same opportunity.

We are urging the governor to change the categorization of these performances.

Open the state the numbers do not warrant a shut down. Schools and the arts are not any more special than businesses.
