Who changed Sen. Joe Manchin’s mind on the Inflation Reduction Act that includes major funding for the climate crisis? According to the climate activist Bill McKibbon, it was you, everyone who has contacted their elected officials, marched in a rally, or wrote a letter to the editor, developed policy, or took any other action related to advocacy for climate issues. I believe he is correct. It is we citizens, together, who changed Sen. Manchin’s mind from a “no” to a “yes” in support of the bill. Together, we can make a difference.

In fact, I saw such citizen action on display recently as several Loudoun County residents showed up for the Board of Supervisor’s Environment and Energy Summit on Wednesday, July 27. They were there, as was I, in support of the Energy Commission’s presentation of the yearlong development of an Environmental and Energy Work Plan for the County. Nineteen citizens with expertise in environmental and energy related fields as well as other community representatives, including a student, developed the Environmental and Energy Work Plan. It provides the County a roadmap for responding to climate change for years to come.

Public is snookered once again.

So tell me about all the housing development, and Bles Park, and over run electrical grids but do sing the praises of the most environmentally harmful Board of Supervisors in Virginia.
