I am writing about the proposed enhancements to Bles Park. I have lived in Potomac Green in Loudoun County for 15 years, within 4 miles of the park. It is one of my favorite places to walk.
I am especially concerned about the proposal to permit automobiles to drive directly to the proposed kayak launch on the Potomac River at Broad Run. Cars would be using a one-lane gravel path that is currently used by pedestrians. This would be very dangerous for walkers, many of whom are children and seniors like me.
There is another proposed kayak launch site on the Potomac, slightly upstream from Broad Run. This is closer to the current parking lot, farther away from sensitive wetlands, and would be a safer alternative. The Board of Supervisors will vote on this proposal on January 18. I am requesting they not approve the current proposed location for a kayak launch, but rather seek safer alternatives.
