I was moved by the opinion by F. Fatemi that appeared in the August 13 edition of the Times-Mirror. It is indeed difficult not to be outraged at the irresponsible behavior of individuals regarding vaccinations, etc., yet my biggest outrage is not directed at any one individual, but at our own federal government.
For some time now, our own government has willingly and deliberately transported COVID-19-infected illegal immigrants to other cities in the U.S. According to a recent NBC News report, a document prepared to brief President Biden this last Thursday stated that more than 18 percent of illegal immigrant families and 20 percent of unaccompanied illegal immigrant children have tested positive for COVID-19 while leaving Border Patrol custody.
At the border, Pete Saenz, mayor of Laredo, TX, told news sources, "I know some people may say, 'You're basically transporting untested people to other cities.' And the answer is, 'Yes.' " "The reason we don't do testing is that once you test, there's an obligation. If they're positive, we're told you have to quarantine. We don't have the infrastructure for that." My outrage is directed at the increasingly hypocritical attitude of our 'betters' and members of the 'ruling class' who seem to be doubling down on the old saying of 'Do as I say, not as I do'. It would be nice if the tongue in their shoes pointed in the same direction as the tongue in their mouths, at least occasionally. Behavior such as this only erodes the public's trust in government at an ever increasing rate. No one can or should expect their fellow citizens to follow the guidance of government 'experts' when these same people deliberately ignore their own guidance on a massive scale.
