Virginia anti-abortion activists have made terrifying progress on their decades-long plan to outlaw abortion. With their Trumpian beliefs, Republican candidates in next week’s election have made their intentions to end abortion access clear. Candidates have even endorsed Texas’ six-week ‘bounty hunter’ abortion ban.

The Commonwealth of Virginia must remain steady in ensuring access to safe, legal abortion for years to come. Even as our opponents have pushed harsher abortion restrictions, de-funded essential community health centers and programs, and stacked the federal courts to ensure these policies stay in place, Virginians have seen our rights to reproductive health care access expand. The Democratic majority in the VA General Assembly and Governor Northam have been national leaders in expanding sexual and reproductive health care access. 79% of Virginians support access to safe, legal abortion - so there is much to be hopeful about.

But we need to take action now to protect abortion access in Virginia. We need community members like you to prevent Virginia from going back to a time when patients seeking abortion had to go through an obstacle course of restrictions including mandatory waiting times and medically unnecessary ultrasounds. It is up to us to make sure that candidates who oppose abortion access do not have the opportunity to pass a Texas-style ban here in Virginia. Across the Commonwealth, we must take action together to defeat Republican House of Delegates candidates who want to see Roe v. Wade overturned.

We must talk about, volunteer for, and vote for candidates who have explicitly expressed their desire to protect the reproductive rights of all people. It is these candidates who will fight to ensure that safe, legal access to abortion and reproductive health care services will remain protected and accessible to all in Virginia.

Isn’t interesting how arguments are framed? “Anti-abortion” (vice pro-life), “terrifying” “Trumpian”, “bounty hunter.”

Instead of trying to sensationalize the issue let’s look at where the candidates stand.

McAuliffe, just like Northam, supports abortion during all nine months of pregnancy. Even after the baby is born alive. By the way, this is what democrats mean when they talk about protecting “reproductive health care.”

Remember the discussion Northam had with a reporter a little over a year ago? Northam said, “The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable…and then a discussion would ensue [alluding to a discussion between the physician and the mother whether the born infant should live or die].

McAuliffe believes the same thing. According to McAuliffe there should be no limits on abortion including even after the baby is born alive.

Think about that for a moment.

Youngkin believes that an exception for abortion should be made in the case of rape, incest, and when the life of the mother is at risk. He has said that he supports pain threshold legislation. He also supports women’s health care centers.

If you believe this election for the next governor of Virginia is about abortion rights those are the issues.

But this election is far more than about abortion. What we have learned is that this election is about the rights of parents to be involved in their children’s education.

If you believe that parents should be involved in their children’s education, then you should vote for Youngkin and Sears. Because McAuliffe has insisted that parents have no role in directing the education of their children.

Think about that for a moment.
