Hearing about a shorter or longer prison term for Derek Chauvin in the national news made me think of an idea that might help facilitate personal, community and national forgiveness and then healing, things so desperately needed at an American time such as this.

Whatever sentence is finally handed down on June 25, I would respectively ask Judge Cahill to consider adding three requirements: First, that Derek Chauvin must attempt to engage every week with the Floyd family in a humble attempt to gain their forgiveness, on their terms. Second, that he must have weekly visits with a psychologist in an effort to understand and then exorcise the demon within that inhumanely knelt on George Floyd's neck until he was dead. And third, that parole power for Derek Chauvin's prison sentence is officially given to the Floyd family.
