Roger Zurn

Roger Zurn

As a tax-paying citizen of Loudoun County, I want to express my total dismay and disgust with county Treasurer Roger Zurn's (R) posting on Facebook. As a Black citizen of the county, I need to remind you of a few things: We, the citizens of Loudoun County, pay your salary. So as your employer I do not condone or support your disrespectful comments towards the Black citizens of this county.

Under no circumstances would any private business or government employers allow this type of behavior. You would have been fired! You are a public elected official. You are supposed to represent all of the citizens, regardless of race, creed or financial status. You obviously do not take your “oath to serve all citizens” seriously.

Even though you quickly removed the disturbing post and provided a dreary, insincere apology, that is not enough. You really need to educate yourself on the history and background of your racist comments. I suggest you do some required reading to better understand your insensitivity to the Black citizens of Loudoun County.

I will leave you with some food for thought next time you have another “moment of lapse in judgement.” Racism is not measured by how you treat the person of color you know, but by how you treat the ones you don’t. It’s not measured by your affection for a singular Black person but your respect for Black people in general.

I love your selective outrage. Where were you with Northam and his blackface pictures?

jke

Tax collection has no race involved.

Voltaire

JKE--valid point. However, Zurn should have shown better judgment since he has been a public official since 1996 (earlier than that since he was Sterling Supervisor earlier).

Were you disgusted when Obama had a photo taken with Louis Farrakhan? Were you disgusted when Obama.invited Al Sharpton

To the White House over 80 times? If not, you dont have any credibility

DavisB

and were you disgusted with all the racist comments here on LTM over the past several weeks, including a couple on this article?

Voltaire

DavisB--how do you define "racist"? The term is subjective.

DavisB

Voltaire - have you not been reading the comments here? do you only post and not read others? look at people like SGP who states that racism does not exist.

Voltaire

DavisB--real cute. no, your premise doesn't cut the mustard here. Yes, I read all the posts. Thanks for asking. However, what I am asking, which nobody can provide me with a definitive answer is the question that I asked. How do you define "racist"?

There is no official definition as to what constitutes racism. Since there is no definitive definition of what "racist" is, nobody, including you,can make a credible argument that a person's comment is "racist" as there is no standard.

DavisB

Volt - so you are saying nothing is racist because you don't have an acceptable definition? That is absurd - plenty of racist remarks here (especially during the time that LTM was allowing anonymous postings) - I would even offer that your denial that racism occurs here is quite a privileged point of view

Voltaire

DavisB--no, by the rules of logic, it isn't absurd at all. So, tell me then, if there is no standard definition for the concept of "racist", how can you judge comments on this website "racist"? You can't objectively. So, we are back to the concept of it being subjective. You say that there are plenty of "racist" posts. I would contend that, barring a uniform definition, you can't say that because there is no objective standard to judge and that my viewpoint is that they aren't. As to your last premise, yeah right. OK, how does my application of the rules of basic logic automatically result in "...quite a privileged point of view"? Inquiring minds would like to know....

DavisB

VOT - you don't get to judge what is not racist - those being oppressed do - for you to continue this path of there is nothing wrong speaks to what is wrong

workhardgetahead

How is stating racism does not exist racist? Do you think the following name is racist,

"National Association for the Advancment of Colored People". Or how about the Congressional Black Caucus? What if we substituted Colored with White and Black with White? How is one not racist and the other is?

Voltaire

DavisB--no, this is not as simple as you claim. Since it has been established that the term is subjective, EACH person then gets to determine what is racist. There is no "moral majority" that can force its opinion on society at large. You want that, then move to a communist controlled country where the STATE/PARTY will gladly tell you what the term is and they will gladly enforce it. BTW, get off the moral high horse too. Nobody appointed you the community monitor who can tell people what is right and wrong.

DavisB lost all credibility when they mentioned "Privledge".

Enough already.

I'm all about equality for all. Yes, racism disgust me. It doesnt matter who it is. There are Whites that are racist, there are blacks that are racist, Hispanics, asians etc etc.etc

This is America, if you work hard you can achieve anything, it doesnt matter your race.

Why are millions trying to come here? Because we are racist? NO!! They want opportunity to excell. You get it here. There are injustices everywhere. What matters is how you overcome.it. Looting and rioting don't cut it

Voltaire

Workhardgetahead--100% agree with your statement.[thumbup]
