Irvin Parra scored two first-half goals and Hugh Roberts added a goal and an assist to help lead the Charlotte Independence to a 5-0 victory over host Loudoun United FC in a USL Championship match Sept. 8 at Segra Field in Leesburg.
Parra opened the scoring in the 29th minute and netted his second goal in the 40th minute. In between, Loudoun was reduced to 10 players after Houssou Landry received his second yellow card of the match.
Charlotte added three second-half goals against shorthanded Loudoun to pull away for a 5-0 victory that snapped a three-match winless streak. Charlotte (9-8-4, 31 points) sits fourth in the eight-team Atlantic Division.
Goalkeeper Noah Abrams made his first career start for Loudoun, who slipped to 2-10-1 at home and 3-16-2 overall. Captain Timmy Mehl made his 20th appearance of the season.
The Red-and-White play at Pittsburgh on Sept. 11 before returning home to host Hartford on Sept. 18.
