An early goal by Kevin Politz sent host Hartford Athletic on its way to a 3-1 victory over Loudoun United FC in a USL Championship game Monday night at Dillon Stadium in Connecticut.

Playing for the first time since a March 7 scoreless draw at Philadelphia, Loudoun United (0-1-1) saw the deficit grow to 3-0 before Elvis Amoh drew a foul in the box and converted a penalty kick in the 58th minute.

"We started slow and gave away a bad restart goal, which was something we focused on in training," Loudoun United head coach Ryan Martin said. "We had some really good moments in the game but lacked quality in the final third and didn’t have enough runs in behind.

"I was happy with the effort the guys put forward, but you can’t give a two-goal lead to a team like Hartford on the road," Martin continued. "Very happy for some of the guys who made their pro debuts as well."

Hartford (2-0-0, 6 points) moved into a first-place tie with Pittsburgh in Group F. Loudoun and Philadelphia are tied for third place in the five-team group with one point each.

Loudoun United has nearly two weeks to prepare for its next game, a return trip to Dillon Stadium to play Hartford on Aug. 2.

"We have a good amount of time until the next game against Hartford," LUFC midfielder Michael Gamble said. "Plenty of time to recover and go over film to see what improvements we need to make going into the next time we play them. It’s good to know we have a couple of guys coming back from injury so our depth will increase and give us a boost going into next game."

"We got our first game back under our belt, remembering the feeling of what it’s like being back on the field," Gamble added. "Unfortunately we didn’t get the result we wanted but I’m positive we will keep building in the right direction from here."
