The Tuscarora Huskies received a stellar pitching performance by Lindsey Mullen and exploded for six runs in the fifth inning to defeat the Loudoun County Captains 9-1 in varsity softball Monday in Leesburg.

Mullen, a sophomore, struck out 17 batters and did not allow a hit over seven innings. She allowed two walks and an unearned run in the complete-game win.

Juniors Katie Scheivert and Tristin Koerner each homered for the Huskies. Tuscarora scored two runs in the first inning, a solo run in the fourth and six runs in the fifth.

Senior Madison Miller crossed the plate with Loudoun County's lone run in the sixth inning.

Both teams were playing their first game of the 2021 spring season. Varsity softball returns this spring after the 2020 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
