The Loudoun County Captains and the Stone Bridge Bulldogs have both swept their first two opponents in the state volleyball playoffs to advance to the Class 4 and Class 5 state finals.
Loudoun County prevailed in straight sets over Western Albemarle and Millbrook during the first two rounds of the Class 4 state tournament to earn a spot in the final against Grafton.
Grafton and Loudoun County have squared off in the Class 4 final each of the last four seasons, with the Captains winning each time. The match is scheduled for 4 p.m. Nov. 19 at the Siegel Center in Richmond.
The Dulles District and Region 4C champion Captains are aiming to win their 10th consecutive state championship.
Stone Bridge has not dropped a set in wins over Mills Godwin and Patrick Henry-Roanoke to punch its ticket for the state final against Frank Cox. The Class 5 final is set for 6 p.m. Nov. 19 at the Siegel Center.
The Potomac District and Region 5D champion Bulldogs will aim to win their second state championship in program history. Stone Bridge claimed its first state title in 2015.
Freedom, a Class 5 state finalist a season ago, fell one step short of advancing to the Class 6 state final this year. The Eagles rallied from a two-set deficit to defeat Floyd Kellam in the quarterfinals before falling in straight sets to Colgan in the semifinals.
