Jovanny Bolivar scored in the 40th minute and Jermaine Fordah recorded a shutout in goal to lift Loudoun United FC to a 1-0 victory over host New Mexico United in a USL Championship match Saturday night.
Loudoun United (1-2, 3 points) earned its first win of the 2021 season, while New Mexico (2-2-1, 7 points) lost for the first time in its last four matches.
With New Mexico down to 10 players after defender Austin Yearwood received a red card in the 23rd minute, Loudoun United broke through in the 40th minute.
Bolivar collected a pass from Kairou Amoustapha just outside the box and sent a shot into the top-right corner of the net to give Loudoun United a 1-0 lead.
Fordah and the Loudoun United defense made the lead stand to secure three points. Bolivar netted his first career goal for LUFC and Fordah earned his first career shutout for the Red-and-White.
Loudoun United returns to Segra Field in Leesburg for its next two matches. LUFC will host Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC (1-2-1) June 2 and the Charleston Battery (0-1-2) June 8. Ticket information at loudoununitedfc.com.
