With Loudoun United FC on the verge of a big road win, Hartford Athletic scored twice late in regulation to pull even for a 2-2 draw Sunday night at Dillon Stadium in Connecticut.
After losing the first two meetings this season against Hartford by a combined score of 7-2, Loudoun built a 2-0 lead Sunday against one of the top teams in the USL Championship.
Shane Wiedt scored the game's first goal midway through the first half before Elvis Amoh netted a goal for a third consecutive game against Hartford in the 73rd minute to push Loudoun's advantage to 2-0.
Hartford rallied late on goals by Markus Naglestad and Hugh Alexander Dixon to earn a point and move back into a first-place tie in Group F. Hartford (5-1-1, 16 points) is tied with Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC (5-3-1) with two games in hand.
Loudoun (1-4-2, 5 points) is fourth in the Group F standings, one point ahead of Philadelphia Union II (1-4-1) and one point behind New York Red Bulls II (2-6). The top two teams from Group F advance to the playoffs.
