The 2019-2020 varsity basketball season ended abruptly during the state playoffs in March due to COVID-19. The pandemic also led to the cancellation of the 2020 spring sports season and the postponement of the fall sports season to 2021.
Basketball -- the final sport to be contested during the 2019-2020 academic year -- is now the first sport scheduled to play in the Virginia High School League's condensed athletic schedule plan for the 2020-2021 academic year.
A nine-month hiatus from varsity competition will conclude Dec. 21 on the opening night of the basketball season. A total of 15 games -- eight boys and seven girls -- are scheduled with 15 of Loudoun's 17 public high schools in action.
John Champe and Woodgrove high schools will tip off the 2020-2021 season Dec. 22. Champe will face Briar Woods and Woodgrove will square off against Stone Bridge.
