Middleburg native and Loudoun Valley High School graduate Jordan Miller continues to make the most of his senior season on the University of Miami’s basketball team.
Miller, a fifth-year senior, poured in 19 points and grabbed five rebounds to help lead No. 5 seed Miami to an 85-69 win over No. 4 seed Indiana in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on March 19 in Albany, N.Y.
For the first time in program history, the Hurricanes are headed back to the Sweet 16 for a second consecutive season. Miami defeated No. 12 seed Drake 63-56 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Miami (27-7) will play No. 1 seed Houston (33-3) in the Midwest Region semifinals on March 24 in Kansas City. The Hurricanes are one win away from matching their 2022 run to the Elite Eight.
“All we can do is just come out and win basketball games,” Miller said about his team earning respect on the national stage. “I feel like winning a game in itself is a way to get recognition. We’re going to the Sweet 16. That’s a lot of recognition ... We’re all focused on just inner-locker room stuff, coming together, pulling together, and just playing our best basketball every night.”
After starting his collegiate career at George Mason in Fairfax, Miller is in the midst of his second season at Miami. The 6-foot-7 wing has helped lead the Hurricanes to five NCAA tournament wins during that span, along with a share of the 2022-2023 Atlantic Coast Conference regular-season title.
A member of Miami’s starting lineup in all 34 games this season, Miller leads the Hurricanes in minutes played and is second on the team in points (15.1 per game), rebounds (6.2), assists (2.6) and steals (1.3).
Miller’s stellar all-around play earned him second-team selection on the All-ACC team and the praise of Miami head coach Jim Larranaga.
“To me, the most underrated guy in our league is Jordan Miller,” Larranaga said during the regular season. “He’s not good at just one or two things ... he is good at everything. In my opinion, he should be all-conference and he should be in the NBA next year.”
Miller played varsity basketball for coach Chad Dawson at Loudoun Valley. The 2017 Virginia 4A Player of the Year, Miller led the Vikings to a state championship in his junior season and is the Purcellville school’s career scoring leader.
