The Virginia Sports Hall of Fame is accepting applications through Oct. 22 for its 2021 Student-Athlete Achievement Awards.
Awards are presented to high school juniors and seniors from across the state that excel academically, athletically and in their communities.
Nominees must meet the following criteria: attend high school (public or private) in Virginia; be a junior or senior during the 2021-2022 academic year; letter in at least one Virginia High School League or Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association sanctioned sport; and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Students may submit an application themselves, or be nominated by a family member, coach, administrator or mentor. Individuals completing the application will be asked to include details and references that support the student’s achievements in each of the areas of focus; academic, athletic and civic.
At least one letter of recommendation and a personal essay from the student are required to complete the nomination process. Applications and all supporting documents can be submitted through the online application at VaSportsHOF.com. Visit the website or contact Salima Ramos at info@VaSportsHOF.com.
Once all nominations are received, the selection committee will choose finalists for the scholarship awards. In 2020, the Hall of Fame awarded $12,000 in scholarships to 16 students.
A reception will be held in Norfolk early next year to announce the scholarship winners. Date and time to be announced.
