The October Saves Goalie Challenge is set for a sixth season supporting breast and pediatric cancer research. October Saves calls on youth, amateur and professional ice hockey goalies to raise money through gathering pledges per save they make during the month of October.

The challenge began in 2014 when a group of 28 goalies in the Ashburn Xtreme Hockey Club wanted to find a way to support family and friends who were fighting cancer. Blown away by the fundraising success of the inaugural event, October Saves was born.

October Saves has grown to include 685 players from 175 clubs across North America at all levels. National Hockey League goalies Braden Holtby from the Washington Capitals, Philipp Grubauer from the Colorado Avalanche and Jake Allen from the St. Louis Blues have all participated.

With more than 90,000 saves logged since its inception, the October Saves Goalie Challenge has raised $800,000.

“Through October Saves, we have watched so many teams and players come together in support of one another, motivate and encourage each other, cheer for each other," October Saves CEO and founder Lara Hopewell said in a press release. "It brings out the best in everyone, all for a wonderful cause.”

To participate, goalies can register at octobersaves.org. For more information, log on to octobersaves.org or follow along on Instagram @octobersaves.
