Ashley Hatch of the Washington Spirit controls the ball during a July 2 game versus the Chicago Red Stars at Segra Field in Leesburg.

The Washington Spirt saw their five-game unbeaten streak conclude July 2 following a 1-0 loss to the Chicago Red Stars in a National Women's Soccer League game played in front of 3,201 fans at Segra Field in Leesbug.

Chicago (3-4-2, 11 points) scored the game's lone goal in the 33rd minute of play. A corner kick by Mallory Pugh of the Red Stars led to a header that deflected off the Spirit's Julia Roddar into the net for an own goal.

Despite an edge in possession, Washington was unable to break through in its first game at Segra Field. The Spirit (3-2-3, 12 points) lost for just the second time in eight games this season.

Washington will host the North Carolina Courage on July 10 at Audi Field in Washington, D.C.

The Spirt return to Segra Field on July 18 to host NJ/NY Gotham FC. Ticket information at washingtonspirit.com.
