The New York Giants built a 20-3 lead and held on for a 23-20 victory over the Washington Football Team in front of 3,000 spectators Sunday afternoon at FedEx Field in Landover, Md.

The Giants completed the season sweep over Washington, winning both games by a combined four points. Washington (2-6), New York (2-7) and Dallas (2-7) are each chasing Philadelphia (3-4-1) for the top spot in the NFC East.

Washington starting QB Kyle Allen injured his ankle late in the first quarter of Sunday's game and did not return. Alex Smith completed 24 of 32 passing attempts for 325 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions in three-plus quarters of action.

Antonio Gibson scored on a 1-yard run in the third quarter and Terry McLaurin hauled in a 68-yard reception in the fourth quarter for Washington's two touchdowns.

Washington visits the Detroit Lions and the Giants host the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 10 of the 2020 NFL season.
