The Washington Redskins were active Saturday during the final day of the 2020 NFL Draft.
Washington traded offensive tackle Trent Williams to San Francisco for a pair of draft picks, while making six selections in rounds four through seven.
The Redskins used the second overall pick Thursday night to select defensive end Chase Young from Ohio State and concluded the draft Saturday by selecting another defensive end, James Smith-Williams of North Carolina State.
In between, Washington added running back/receiver Antonio Gibson (Memphis), offensive tackle Saahdiq Charles (Louisiana State), receiver Antonio Gandy-Golden (Liberty), center Keith Ismael (San Diego State), linebacker Khaleke Hudson (Michigan) and safety Kamren Curl (Arkansas).
"The biggest thing was going out and drafting the young men that we believe can be part of what we want to do, grow with us as we go forward," Redskins head coach Ron Rivera said during his post-draft press conference.
"These young guys we took with our first few picks are guys we expect to be part of what we are building. The next group of guys we expect to grow and develop and have them become part of what we are doing. We feel really confident and strongly about it," Rivera said about the 2020 draft class.
The Redskins traded Williams to the 49ers for a fifth-round pick in this year's draft and a third-round selection in the 2021 draft. Washington used the fifth-round pick to select Ismael.
Williams, a seven-time Pro Bowler, requested a trade after sitting out last season due to a dispute with team management. He reunites with San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan, a former offensive coordinator with the Redskins.
"This was an opportunity for us to part ways with a player that wanted to move forward," Rivera said. "This gives everybody an opportunity to start clean, start fresh."
